George Clooney And Amal Alamuddin Donate 100 Thousand US Dollars For The Victims Of The Beirut Explosion

JAKARTA - George Clooney and his wife Amal Alamuddin donated a total of US $ 100,000 to a Lebanese charity after a big explosion occurred in Beirut on Tuesday, August 4 yesterday.

"We are both deeply concerned about the people in Beirut and the devastation they have faced in recent days," George and Amal said in a statement quoted by Antara on Friday.

"The three charitable organizations we found will provide important assistance on the ground namely the Lebanese Red Cross, Impact Lebanon and Baytna Baytak. We will donate 100 thousand dollars for all three and hope others can help in whatever way they can," he said. the couple added.

The explosions on Tuesday killed at least 135 people and injured 5,000. Beirut city governor Marwan Abboud said 300,000 people had lost their homes. The explosion occurred as a result of 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate being stored and obliterated parts of Beirut.

The Lebanese government has declared a state of emergency for two weeks, effectively giving full force to the military. Lebanon has also been mired in a severe economic crisis.

Amal Alamuddin is a native of Lebanon who works as a lawyer specializing in international law and human rights. She married George Clooney in 2014.

The couple donated more than $ 1 million earlier this year towards efforts to deal with COVID-19. $ 250,000 each for Motion Picture and Television Home, SAG-AFTRA Fund and Los Angeles Mayor's Fund and an additional $ 300,000 for three international charities, namely the Lebanon Food Bank, Italy's Lombardo Region and the UK's National Health Service.
