JAKARTA - The government has set a policy of using the Population Identification Number (NIK) to replace the Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP). The policy is rumored to be effective in 2023.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani emphasized that the decision did not necessarily make everyone who already has an ID card obliged to pay taxes.
