Partial Lunar Eclipse Visible From Manokwari
MANOKWARI - The peak of the partial lunar eclipse is clearly visible in the sky of Manokwari, West Papua tonight local time.
Residents of Manokwari were also seen capturing the privilege of this longest partial lunar eclipse by using cell phone cameras from a number of places.
Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) at Rendani Manokwari Station, Daniel Tandi, confirmed that the event was the longest partial lunar eclipse in this century and its peak was clearly visible in Papua and West Papua.
"A partial lunar eclipse is a condition where the surface of the moon is partially covered by the earth's shadow or umbra, in West Papua it can be seen clearly, except for the Raja Ampat Regency area," he said, quoted by Antara, Friday, November 19.
Daniel said the partial lunar eclipse on November 19, 2021 was called the longest in this century, because its appearance lasted for 3 hours, 29 minutes, 1 second in all parts of Indonesia.
However, specifically for the Papua and West Papua regions, the duration of the partial lunar eclipse is the longest, within 3 hours, 2 minutes, 33 seconds since the moon rises.
"Research results from the LAPAN Space Science Center show that this eclipse has an eclipse magnitude of 0.9785. The lunar surface will be covered by the Earth's umbra by 97.85 percent, occurring close to the Pleaides Cluster in the constellation Taurus," said Daniel Tandi.
