Gojira Bursts First Original Work In 4 Years, Another World
JAKARTA - French metal troop, Gojira released a new single titled Another World. Produced by Joseph "Joe" Duplantier and mixed through the cool hands of Andy Wallace, this new song is already available on all streaming platforms. Not only that, an animation-themed music video directed by Maxime Tiberhgien and Sylvain Favre is also available on Gojira's YouTube channel.
Another World marks Gojira's first original music since the release of their Grammy-nominated full-length album Magma in 2016.
Regarding the song, vocalist, guitarist, and producer Joseph Duplantier commented: "We are excited to present our new song Another World."
"Ferdinand Magellan once said: 'With determination we will embark on the bravest of all endeavors, to face a dark future without fear and conquer the unknown.' Will humanity be destroyed, or will we survive nature's rage? Get a glimpse of our dark future with the 1968 film Planet Of The Apes… Another World! "
A year ago, Gojira's drummer Mario Duplantier told rock radio station Idaho KBear 101 that they were continuing to work on a follow-up to Magma.
"(The process of making the album) is going well," he said. "I can't go into too many details because we still have a lot to go over, and we have to give a collective (release) date etc. But I can tell you that, yes, we are working really well. Working hard on this. -new things. Work is in progress, and we are very proud of it. We can't wait to provide full details. "
Meanwhile, Magma's presence rewarded Gojira with Grammy nominations for the first time in the Best Metal Performance and Best Rock Album categories. Silvera's sadistic track received a nomination for Best Metal Performance, while Magma itself was nominated for Best Rock Album in the annual awards.
Going back to August two years ago, Joseph Duplantier told Metal Injection, Gojira started working on new music nearly three years ago. "Usually we write 12 songs and record 12 songs and release 12 songs," he said. "Now it looks like we're going to write 100 songs. It's a different approach and it's fun. We have new desires and a new way of doing things. I like to think it's going to be amazing. I feel like it's going to be really interesting, at least for us. I don't know what people will think. "
In the same interview, Joseph said that Gojira plans to explore some new territory in the upcoming album. "I want to return to some of the old influence we had," he said. "We always (felt) not a death metal band. Before, I was a Dire Straits fan, Michael Jackson. We have that in us and some progressive (musical influence) things too. We have all these things and we need to express them somehow, mixed in with having a special sauce. We're working on something that is sometimes a little surprising, even to us. Sometimes, like, “What is this?” I don't know, let's take a nap and come back there. After this, we'll go back to the studio and have a look. What happened."
