Unri Lecturer Becomes Suspect After Harassing Student, BEM Urges Rector To Be Firm About Status
RIAU - Chairman of the University of Riau Student Executive Board (BEM Unri) Kaharuddin, urged the Chancellor and the campus to take firm action against SH, the Dean of FISIP Unri who has been named a suspect in a case of alleged abuse against his student.
"Today (SH)'s status as an educator is still active. We are still waiting for this and we urge the Unri Chancellor to be firm in cases of sexual harassment. However, today the Unri leadership has not made a decision regarding his status on campus," said Kaharuddin, in Pekanbaru, Antara, Thursday, November 18.
Based on the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 30 of 2021 Article 42, the SH status should have been an inactive dean.
Kaharuddin is worried that SH's status as an active educator will make it easier for the suspect to use his relationship to make the charges against him lighter.
"As we know, the suspect even had the chance to report the victim and friends of Komahi (International Relations Student Community) for the defamation case. I, as the Student President, promise to accompany and oversee this case to completion," said Kaharuddin.
He also questioned the attitude of the Independent Fact-Finding Team that had been formed to investigate the case.
"Until today there has been no decision from the fact-finding team, but yesterday the ministry's investigative team came to Unri to find facts and is currently waiting for the results of the decision," said Kaharuddin.
In addition, he also asked all parties not to be careless and complacent even though SH is already a suspect in this case.
"Don't let this just serve as a sedative in a crowd, because we don't know the future. Because this is still a suspect, and there is no court decision yet. We are really guarding this case," he said again.
