Microsoft Overhauls Windows Media Player's Music Player App, Including Its Name

JAKARTA - Windows Media Player users should be tolerant because Microsoft will replace the media playback application with Media Player.

Although only the name "Windows" is missing in the application, but that does not mean Media Player is present without a change in appearance. This app is designed for music and video playback replacing Windows Media Player and Groove Music on Windows 11.

Microsoft's goal with the Media Player app is to create a simple all-in-one media player for music and video that includes an updated UI (user interface), more in line with the modern design of Windows 11.

Users don't have to worry about their music collection and playlists disappearing, they'll be automatically migrated to Media Player later.

Compiled from Engadget, Thursday, November 18, Microsoft says users will be able to quickly browse through their library to find what they want to listen to, and create and manage playlists.

While the song is playing, they will see the album art and image of the singer of the song in full-screen and mini-player mode. The app will also add files from the user's PC music and video folders. Through settings, users can tell Media Player where else to look for music to take to the library.

There are also accessibility-focused options in the app. Microsoft says it includes improved keyboard shortcuts and key access support for keyboard users with other assistive technologies. Even so, users can still access older versions of Windows Media Player through Windows Tools.
