Good News From Luhut: The Price Of Electric Cars Will Be Affordable, For Example, Wuling Costs IDR 150 Million And Will Become People's Cars
JAKARTA - The government is targeting the use of electric vehicles (EVs) or electric vehicles, especially motorcycles, as a whole by 2060. This is in line with Indonesia's commitment to reduce emission levels targeted at 2030 or sooner.
However, the expensive price of electric vehicles is an obstacle. Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that to encourage the shift in energy from fossil fuels to environmentally friendly energy, the government provides incentives so that people can reach the price of electric vehicles which are still relatively expensive.
"The high price of EVs is our challenge, we will provide incentives so that the price can be affordable. For example, we ask for the Wuling car for around Rp. 150 million, it will be a people's car, here, the raw materials are from us," he said in a virtual discussion, Wednesday, November 17th.
Luhut said that the use of motorcycles and electric cars is part of Indonesia's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 29 percent with its own efforts and 40 percent with international assistance. This commitment is also in accordance with the Paris Agreement in the National Determined Contribution (NDC) document.
Furthermore, Luhut said that Indonesia is committed to climate change. Therefore, the government is serious about realizing electric vehicles that are integrated upstream to downstream and hopes that Indonesia can become a global electric vehicle supplier.
"We make everything integrated, this is just a part. We must not vilify our own nation, and do not be pessimistic about our nation, this nation is a great nation," he said.
Luhut said that one of the real steps taken by the government to realize the transfer of fossil energy to environmentally friendly energy, as well as carry out Indonesia's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is to increase the number of electric vehicles in Bali.
For example, said Luhut, by providing motorbikes and electric cars for the G20 Summit in Bali in 2022.
"Later on at the G20 we will prepare all motorcycles, namely electric motorcycles with the infrastructure preparation we are currently preparing. Including the official car there we will use an EV (electric vehicle) later," he said.
