The Increasingly Luxurious Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

JAKARTA - There were five new devices introduced by Samsung at the Galaxy Unpacked event last night. But what caught the eye the most was the latest model from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The successor to the Galaxy Fold, which was launched last year, comes with many improvements. Even the BTS boy group who is the Samsung brand ambassador were also stunned by this new product.

"Galaxy Z Fold 2 is a game changer for the experience of a high-end flagship cellphone," said Samsung Global Sales and Marketing, Victor Delgado, during the Galaxy Unpacked event, Thursday, August 5.

As per the rumors, Samsung changed the display screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 to be bigger and almost without a bezel. Now, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a 6.2-inch front screen, while when opened, this smartphone has a main screen of 7.6 inches.

To optimize the screen landscape, Samsung also carries the Infinity O design, in the form of a punch hole that makes it almost without a notch. The screen refresh rate capability is also increased to 120Hz.

Samsung also made the body dimensions of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 thinner. Even when stretched or when the screen is folded, this smartphone has a thickness of 6.0 mm which makes it slimmer and comfortable to store in a pocket.

Samsung also listened to input from first-generation Galaxy Fold users. Still using Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) material, Samsung claims the durability of this glass layer has better resistance.

Where Samsung has embedded Y-Octa OLED technology on the screen layer. Display technology makes the touch panel layer on the screen thinner and lighter.

Not only that, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 also adopts a new hinge mechanism that allows this smartphone to be opened in a position of 75 degrees, 90 degrees and 115 degrees. This makes the fold space on this phone thinner, so dust or other debris can't get between the hinge gaps on the screen.

Unfortunately, Samsung did not explain in more detail about this new product. Whether it's the camera configuration that will be used or the hardware specifications. It only mentions the 4,365 mAh capacity battery which supports 15 watts of fast charging.

Even so, this phone is already running the Android 10 operating system with the One UI 2.5 user interface. The details of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be explained during the Samsung pre-order, on September 1.
