Anies Closes Extortion Room In DKI: If Jakarta Is Bad, Indonesia's Impression Will Also Be Bad

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, assisted by the TNI, Polri and the Attorney General's Office, has confirmed that he will close the illegal levies (extortion) spaces for all public services. Anies does not want Indonesia to be ugly because public services in Jakarta are not optimal.

"There is always room here, we call it greed, the potential for extortion arises. We want to make sure that Jakarta is free from extortion," said Anies Baswedan at Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, November 16.

One of the steps to close the extortion space is the signing of the 2021 Extortion Free Commitment from the Governor of DKI, the Kapolda Metro Jaya, Pangdam Jaya, and the High Prosecutor's Office. The signing was witnessed by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.

Anies said that the ranks spread across six cities and regencies in DKI also have the same commitment to eradicate extortion or corruption.

The former Minister of Education and Culture revealed that previously his party had implemented digitalization so that public services were carried out transparently and suppressed the potential for extortion.

Meanwhile, in terms of officers in the field, Anies said that the personnel earn enough income so they are optimistic that they can cover the potential for extortion.

"We are making this commitment now as proof that this city is free from extortion, hopefully this will provide peace in dealing with the government," said Anies.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD appreciated the steps taken by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to declare an extortion-free province, especially in the public service sector.

"Jakarta is the window of the state, who wants to know Indonesia, look at Jakarta. Jakarta is good, Indonesia has a good impression. Jakarta is bad, the impression of Indonesia will be bad," said Anies.
