Police Wait For Family Permission To Investigate Cases Of Suicide Convicts In Aceh Detention Center

BANDA ACEH - The Banda Aceh Police Criminal Investigation Unit team is still waiting for reports and permission from the victim's family to follow up on the case of one of the prisoners at the Banda Aceh Detention Center, in Kajhu Aceh Besar, Aceh, who died allegedly by committing suicide.

"Essentially, we are ready to receive reports from the victims in order to carry out further investigations into the incident," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit for the Banda Aceh Police, AKP M Ryan C Yudha, in Banda Aceh, quoted by Antara, Monday, November 15.

Previously, a narcotics convict Riski Ramadhan (26) died, allegedly due to a suicide attempt by hanging himself in the detention room of the Banda Aceh Detention Center.

The incident actually occurred on Tuesday, November 9, but the case only emerged to the public today. Prior to his death, he was also serving a sanction for committing a serious offence.

Regarding the case, Yudha explained, his party only received the information from the Baitussalam Police the day after the incident, namely Wednesday, November 10.

After that, the police confirmed to the prison authorities and their families regarding the incident. However, so far the victim's family has not wanted to make a report and stated that they accepted the incident.

"We have conveyed that if we object to the incident, we can make a report to the police, and we need permission from the family for the exhumation (grave excavation) to carry out an autopsy on the victim," he said.

He stated that his party had also confirmed directly to the detention house and the victim's family. However, further investigation cannot be carried out because the actual cause of death must first be determined.

"To achieve this, an exhumation must be carried out and require permission from the family, and the basis is a police report made by the victim," he said.
