Harry Maguire Gets Sprayed By Roy Keane For Too Much Style

JAKARTA - Appearing in the England national team squad on the ninth matchday of Group I 2022 World Cup Qualification, Harry Maguire successfully listed his name on the scoreboard. But he got sprayed by Manchester United legend Roy Keane.

In a match that took place on Saturday, November 13, 2021, Maguire managed to contribute the opening goal in a 5-0 win against Albania. After tearing the Albanian goal, he immediately celebrated by running while cupping his ears with his hands and then sliding towards the corner flag.

The Manchester United captain may have wanted to silence critics by showing this gesture when celebrating his goal. But that only got Maguire sprayed.

It was Manchester United legend Roy Keane who criticized Maguire's celebration. Keane thought Harry had too much style and said the goal-scoring celebration would not silence criticism of the defender's performance.

"When a player scores a goal he shuts the ears of the critics, but I think it's a shame, he's a shame for Man United.

Criticism leveled at Maguire for his celebration also came from former England striker Jermain Defoe. He considers the celebration actually opened up space for critics to re-examine Maguire's poor performance as a defender.

"You don't have to do it, he scored a goal, it was a good goal. What he did was put a sour taste in people's mouths, they didn't like it," said Defoe.

"What he did was give them (the critics) the opportunity to wait for (Maguire's) poor performance to attack him in the future," he added.
