TKW Extorted At Wisma Athletes, Police Call The Perpetrators Not Official Officers, And Has Been Huddled In Cell
JAKARTA - Video footage of illegal levies (extortion) against female workers (TKW) has gone viral on social media.
In the video, a man wearing a vest asks for some money from several people in the car, at the Pademangan Athlete's Wisma Atlet yard.
"Think of it as parking money, that's all. What's the story, just give me Rp. 50,000," he said.
The man with black glasses who asked for money from the people in the car, said the nominal value was Rp. 50,000 to Rp. 250,000.
After the video went viral, the North Jakarta Metro Police managed to arrest the perpetrator with the initials MS alias L (39) who was caught extorting migrant workers or TKW.
"The perpetrator of the extortion of the viral TKW has been arrested by the North Jakarta Police Pademangan," said North Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Guruh Arif Darmawan when contacted by VOI, Friday, November 12.
Currently, the perpetrator is in the custody of the Pademangan Police. In addition to apprehending the perpetrators, the police also confiscated evidence of up to Rp. 2.3 million in cash.
"Currently MS is still undergoing examination and being asked for information. There are no jobs for the perpetrators. (brokers) Like that. There is no work, it's not official parking. It's a kind of broker," he said.
As a result of his actions, MS was charged with Article 368 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of 9 years.
