Komnas HAM Visits Conflict Refugees Attack On TNI Post In Maybrat West Papua
SORONG - Komnas HAM reviewed and monitored the condition of refugees after the conflict that attacked the Army Post in Kisor, Maybrat district, West Papua.
Komnas HAM commissioner, Beka Ulung Hapsara, said that his party met directly with refugees in Aitinyo and Aiwasi districts to ask for information about the conditions and listen to their hopes.
The results of the field review after discussing with the refugees, it was found that they had the desire to return to their respective villages to celebrate Christmas Day on December 25.
"But of course they have to get security guarantees and the local government can fulfill their daily needs," he said, quoted by Antara, Thursday, November 11.
Beka said the handling of refugees by the Maybrat Regency government was sufficient. Children stay in school and the health of the refugees is guaranteed to be well served.
In addition, he continued, the Maybrat district government also provided basic food assistance to the refugees. So far there has been no shortage in handling refugees because their rights have been fulfilled.
"One thing that still needs to be improved in the handling of refugees in Maybrat by the local government is trauma healing," continued Beka.
The Komnas HAM commissioner also asked the Maybrat district government to open up to outside aid so that it can help meet the needs of the refugees.
