Semarang City Government Opens Houses And Nutrition Gardens To Fight Tengkes

SEMARANG - The Semarang City Government, Central Java, opened a house and a nutrition garden as an effort to overcome the problem of malnutrition and tengkes.

Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi (Hendi) said that malnutrition and tengkes are important issues because they have an impact on the formation of the quality of human resources.

The house and nutrition garden itself is located in Srondol Wetan Village, Banyumanik District, Semarang City.

He said the number of tengkes cases at the beginning of the pandemic had increased.

"In 2019, before the pandemic, the number of stunting cases was 2.5 percent, in 2020 it rose to 3.13 percent," he said, quoted by Antara, Thursday, November 11.

The city government's efforts to reduce the number of tengkes cases, he said, were quite effective this year.

"In 2021 this can be suppressed again through efforts to move together," he added.

Previously, the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection established a Women's Friendly and Child Care Village in Tanjung Emas Village, Semarang City, which is expected to become a national pilot program.

The selection of the Tanjung Emas Village in this program is related to the number of cases of child marriage being found, the high number of tengkes, and the empowerment of women as heads of families.
