Komnas HAM: Permendikbudristek PPKS In Line With The Protection Of Human Rights
JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) assesses the content or substance of the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture, Research, and Technology (Permendikbudristek) Number 30 of 2021 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) in line with the protection of human rights.
"Komnas HAM views that the substance of the Permendikbudristek is in line with respect for and protection of human rights, and has a strong gender justice perspective," said Komnas HAM Deputy Chairman Amiruddin as quoted by Antara, Thursday, November 11.
According to him, this is in line with Article 29 of Law Number 39 of 1999 concerning Human Rights which states that everyone has the right to protection of their personal, family, honor, dignity and property rights.
"This right is included in the right to a sense of security," said Amiruddin.
He is of the view that campus should be a place for students to have the right to that sense of security. Therefore, Komnas HAM supports the implementation of the PPKS Permendikbudristek.
"This is to prevent sexual violence from occurring and to provide the basis for taking legal action against the perpetrators if they have occurred," he said.
The issuance of the Permendikbudristek is also considered timely, because recently sexual violence has often surfaced in the campus environment.
Kemendikbudristek said Permendikbudristek Number 30 of 2021 PPKS in the university environment is in line with educational goals.
The PPKS Ministerial Regulation was prepared keeping in mind that there are 10 laws and regulations that have a higher position in the eyes of the law, and have gone through a harmonization process at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
