Workers Demand A 10 Percent Increase In DKI UMP, DKI Provincial Government: Be Patient

JAKARTA - Head of the Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Agency Andri Yansyah asked workers to wait for the results of the 2022 DKI provincial minimum wage (UMP) decision.

In this case, the workers voiced their demands for the DKI UMP next year to increase by between 7 and 10 percent. This demand was conveyed in rallies that were carried out several times before.

"On Monday tomorrow we will hold a meeting of the wage council. So, regarding the UMP, just be patient," said Andri when contacted, Thursday, November 11.

Andri explained, in setting the UMP, the DKI Provincial Government needs to consider the latest data from the DKI Central Statistics Agency (BPS), and discuss it with employers' associations, workers, and government elements from the economic sector.

"So, regarding the UMP's desire to increase by 10 percent, I cannot conclude whether it is realistic or unrealistic," said Andri.

So far, Andri has not received an expression of objection from the employers' association over the demands for a wage increase made by workers. The association will wait for the government to determine the amount first.

"The matter of objecting or not, he (the association) has not seen the amount. We haven't set the amount, so we can't conclude whether he objected or not, we don't know yet," he said.

For information, a group of workers who are members of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) again held a demonstration in front of DKI City Hall.

Jakarta KSPI chairman Winarso said his party demanded an increase in the DKI provincial minimum wage (UMP) in 2022 by 7 to 10 percent from 2021.

"Today's action is from the Jakarta KSPI affiliate, of which there are 10 unions who are members of KSPI. Today our action demands an increase in the 2022 UMP by 7 to 10 percent," Winarso told reporters at the location, Wednesday, November 10.

Winarso said that the amount of the increase in the UMP to 10 percent had been calculated based on a decent living needs survey (KHL) conducted by KSPI and its balance.

Actually, said Winarso, the KHL for workers in 2022 requires a UMP of IDR 5.3 million. However, he also considers the economic conditions of entrepreneurs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"If it's 7 to 10 percent, it will be Rp. 4.8 million. Because we have to balance it too," he said.
