Former DPRK Member Bireuen Sentenced To 20 Years In Prison For Drug Cases
BANDA ACEH - The judges of the District Court (PN) Idi, East Aceh Regency, sentenced a former member of the DPRK Bireuen to 20 years in prison for being found guilty of possessing 26 kilograms of methamphetamine.
The verdict was read out by a panel of judges chaired by Apriyanti accompanied by Irwandi and Khalid as member judges in the Idi District Court courtroom, East Aceh, Tuesday, November 9.
In addition to sentencing a former member of the council on behalf of Usman Sulaiman, the panel of judges also sentenced his colleague Mahmuddin Hasan to 20 years in prison. The two defendants were also sentenced to pay a fine of Rp. 10 billion with a subsidiary of six months in prison.
Meanwhile, the other defendant, named Rajali Usman, was acquitted because he was not proven guilty and convinced that he had committed a crime related to the possession of the 26 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
The verdict of the panel of judges is lighter than the demands of the public prosecutor read out at the previous trial. Previously, the public prosecutor charged the three defendants with the death penalty.
The defendants attended a virtual trial from the Idi Penitentiary, East Aceh. Meanwhile, Public Prosecutor (JPU) Cherry Arida, Harry Arhfan, and M Iqbal.
After reading the verdict, the panel of judges asked the public prosecutor and the defendants whether they accepted the verdict or not. The defendants said no.
Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) stated that he would appeal against the decision of the panel of judges with the defendants Usman Sulaiman and Mahmuddin Hasan.
Meanwhile, for the acquittal with the defendant Rajali Usman, the Public Prosecutor declared an appeal to the Supreme Court. The panel of judges gave the parties two weeks to make their decision.
The three defendants were arrested by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) team on the Banda Aceh-Medan national road in Beusa Beurano Village, West Peureulak District, East Aceh Regency, on April 4, 2021.
