Anies Baswedan Needs Extreme Steps To Overcome Floods, It's Useless To Be Busy Building Infiltration Wells

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's steps to build infiltration wells are considered ineffective to cope with flooding. Instead of busy taking care of this, Governor Anies Baswedan was asked to take extreme steps.

City Planning Observer Yayat Supriatna said the DKI Provincial Government must use a structural and non-structural approach to anticipate flooding. Structural covers the construction of reservoirs, dams, dredging to normalization.

"Meanwhile, the non-structural approach is about culture, cleanliness and greening," Yayat explained when contacted by VOI, Jakarta, Tuesday, November 9.

Yayat believes that this structural approach has been designed by Governor Anies together with the Governor's Team for the Acceleration of Development (TGUPP). Anies' important task is to realize these big programs.

Because, continued Yayat, the construction of infiltration wells is not efficient in dealing with flooding. The problem is that this is intended to overcome water drought in Jakarta.

"The approach to overcoming flooding must be more massive because what is faced by water on a large scale in the context of an entire city with a high volume, cannot be done half-heartedly. Especially if it rains extreme, the handling is also extreme. If it is serious, it is serious, face it and solve it," Yayat said.

The capacity of infiltration wells also has prerequisites. For example, the volume of rain that falls in Jakarta is in the low to moderate category.

Meanwhile, flooding in Jakarta occurs due to heavy or extreme rainfall whose volume exceeds the capacity of infiltration wells. If today there are still infiltration wells, both in RT/RW, roads that are flooded with water, their presence is not efficient.

"Handling floods and adding infiltration wells to add groundwater are different. If it is to overcome the groundwater crisis, it can be used as a tool to add or multiply infiltration wells, a movement to save water. If the flood context is broad. For example, river watersheds, urban areas, areas that are bigger, the intensity of rain is greater," explained Yayat.

"This means that making infiltration wells is easy, but the impact is not much. So, just do the existing big programs," said Yayat.
