13 Km Depth Earthquake Shakes Buton District, Southeast Sulawesi, Broken Pottery And Sound Walls
KENDARI - A tectonic earthquake with a depth of 13 km with a magnitude of 4.7 shook the South Lasalimu District, Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) Province, Tuesday, November 9 at 10.19 WITA.
Head of the Kendari Rudin Geophysics Station, said the results of the BMKG analysis showed the epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 5.32 South Latitude, 123.16 East Longitude.
"Or rather, it is located on land at a distance of 0.6 km, Southwest of Lasalimu Selatan, Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi," said Rudin to the media crew as reported by Antara.
Rudin said the location of the epicenter and the depth of the earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake due to local fault activity in South West Lasalimu, Buton Regency.
He explained that this earthquake was reported to have been felt in South Lasalimu III-IV MMI, Pasarwajo III MMI, Baunau II-III MMI.
"The impact was felt by many people in the house, outside by a few people, the pottery was broken, the windows/doors creaked and the walls creaked," he said.
So far, there have been no reports of damage caused by the earthquake. The modeling results show that the earthquake has no potential for a tsunami.
"As of 10.50 WIT, the results of BMKG monitoring show that aftershocks have not occurred," he said.
Rudin also asked the public to check and ensure that the residential buildings are sufficiently earthquake-resistant, or that there is no damage caused by earthquake vibrations that endanger the stability of the building before returning to their homes.
