Hundreds Of Tons Of Iron For The Jakarta – Bandung High Speed Rail Project Are Missing, Police Investigate Alleged Involvement Of Internal Parties
JAKARTA - Five iron thieves from the Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train (KCJB) project have been arrested by the East Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit. The five suspects had the initials DY, SA, SU, AR, and MLR.
"Yes, there are reports of the theft of PT Wika's iron, in the high-speed train project. From these results PT Wika's security tried to catch the perpetrators, but fled by leaving a pickup type vehicle in which there was criminally stolen iron," said the East Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Pol Erwin Kurniawan, Monday 8 November.
The police chief said, based on the results of the investigation from the suspect's statement, it was known that the five perpetrators had been carrying out the iron theft for the high-speed train project.
"The perpetrators have sold as much as 111,081 kilograms (111,081 tons). This has been going on for six months. This is quite astonishing," he said.
Erwin said that his party was still developing the iron theft case for the high-speed train project. This includes investigating allegations of insider involvement.
"This problem has become wider because the high-speed train is included in a national strategic project and the five are under further investigation about who is involved," he stressed.
The five suspects were charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code regarding theft with a weighted threat of a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
