JAKARTA - Indonesian candy brand, Kopiko, is being discussed because it appears in the Korean drama Hometown Cha Cha Cha, played by Shin Min-a and Kim Seon-ho. Previously, this candy product from PT Mayora Indah Tbk had gone viral because it appeared in another popular drama, Vincenzo.
Mayora itself is no stranger to snack food lovers. The jargon of "Satu Lagi Dari Mayora" may appear almost every day in advertisements broadcast on Indonesian television stations.
Mayora is a big player in the processed food industry, especially snacks. The business of producing biscuits, candy, wafers, diamond noodles, instant drinks, coffee, and mineral water cannot be separated from the figure of conglomerate Jogi Hendra Atmadja.
Jogi is one of the richest people in Indonesia. Based on Forbes data as of December 2020, Jogi Hendra Atmadja is the 7th richest person in the country with a wealth of US$4.3 billion or around IDR 61 trillion.
Jogi Hendra Atmadja, a man of Chinese descent, was born in Jakarta in 1946 ago. Since childhood, he has been in a family environment that has been in the home biscuit business.
Over time, after graduating from high school, Jogi continued his higher education at the Faculty of Medicine, Trisakti University. Even though he has earned a doctor's degree, Jogi is still involved in the family biscuit business which he started in 1948.
Together with Darmawan Kurnia and Raden Soedigdo, Jogi founded PT Mayora Indonesia on February 17, 1977 in Jakarta by operating the first factory in Tangerang, Banten. At that time, Jogi chose to sit as the main commissioner rather than the director.
At the beginning of the establishment of Mayora, the product that became their hero was the Roma coconut biscuit. This product can attract the attention of the audience because it is considered suitable as a friend to drink tea.
Then, in the 1980s, Mayora launched the first coffee candy in Indonesia, Kopiko, which immediately stole the hearts of consumers. Mayora grew bigger and later gave birth to popular brands, such as Beng-beng, Astor, Choki-choki, to Torabika which have penetrated 90 countries.
After 23 years as a private company, in 1990, Mayora was listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). At that time, the stock offering price of the issuer coded MYOR was at IDR 9,300.
Despite the pandemic, Mayora was able to maintain her business to continue to grow last year by recording sales of up to IDR 24.47 trillion. As a result, the company's profit rose 3.5 percent to IDR 2.06 trillion. The company's total assets also grew 3.88 percent to IDR 19.77 trillion.
Currently, Jogi still serves as Mayora's President Commissioner. He inherited the business to his three children who sit on the board of directors Andra Sukrendra Atmadja, Hendarta Atmadja, and Wardhana Atmadja.
2021 third-quarter performance
PT Mayora Indah Tbk posted an increase in sales performance in the third quarter of this year. The company managed to record an increase in sales of 13.12 percent on an annual basis or YoY.
Launching the financial report as of September 2021, Mayora Indah's sales were recorded at IDR 19.88 trillion. This amount increased from IDR 17.58 trillion which was printed in the same period last year.
Mayora's net sales until the third quarter of this year were still supported by the local market which reached IDR 11.76 trillion. This figure grew 12.45 percent YoY from the previous IDR 10.46 trillion until the third quarter of 2020.
This was followed by sales from the export market which also grew by 14.04% percent YoY, from the previous IDR 7.13 trillion in the third quarter of 2020, increasing to IDR 8.13 trillion at the end of September 2021. Mayora was also observed to have recorded a return of IDR 13.09. billion in the third quarter of this year.
The growth in sales has driven Mayora's cost of goods sold by 20.43 percent YoY to IDR 14.80 trillion as of the end of last September. In addition, until the end of September 2021, MYOR recorded selling expenses and general and administrative expenses of IDR 3.07 trillion and IDR 573.50 billion, respectively.
Meanwhile, Mayora's overall operating expenses were monitored to increase by 7.97 percent YoY to IDR 3.64 trillion in the January-September 2021 period. As of September 2021, MYOR's operating profit was recorded at IDR 1.44 trillion, down 24.72 percent YoY from the previous year. reached IDR 1.91 trillion as of September 2020.
Thus, the profit for the year attributable to owners of the parent company also decreased, from IDR 1.55 trillion to IDR 977.93 billion.
