Floods And Landslides Hit Dozens Of Points In Sukabumi City

SUKABUMI - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sukabumi City noted that floods and landslides hit dozens of points, one of which was the Taman Bahagia Public Cemetery (TPU) in Warudoyong District.

"Until late at night, dozens of reports of disaster events came to us, namely landslides and floods triggered by heavy rains that fell from morning until late at night," said the Head of the Sukabumi City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Imran Wardhani, quoted by Antara, Sunday, November 7.

From observations at the flood location that inundated a number of tombs at Taman Bahagia TPU, Benteng Village, apart from being triggered by heavy rain, the main cause of garbage clogging drainage so that rainwater flooded Jalan Taman Bahagia and overflowed to inundate a number of graves.

The location of the flood in the road basin causes the water discharge to rapidly increase with a maximum height of approximately 30 cm. Currently, the flood has receded after residents and motorists worked together to dismantle drainages that were clogged with plastic and other waste.

Then, the flood also inundated Jalan Arief Rahman Hakim, RT 05/09 Kelurahan Selabatu, Cikole Subdistrict due to the overflowing river water so that it submerged seven housing units, Jalan Gotongroyong, Tegal Pari RT 02/08 Kelurahan/Kecamatan Gunung Quail and the flood also inundated the residents' settlements. located behind the Sukabumi City Transportation Office.

Furthermore, for landslides in Gang Kobra, RT 01/13, Subang Jaya Village, Cikole District, RT 01/09, Sriwedari Village, Gunungpuyuh District and two other points that are still being handled and data collection.

Not only flooding, heavy rain that just subsided at around 19.00 WIB on Sunday, November 7, also caused a house unit to collapse in Gang Titiran, Sriwedari Village and a bridge to collapse in RW 08, Jalan Taman Bahagia, Benteng Village.

"Joint officers from various agencies have been deployed to various disaster locations and some are on standby to anticipate other aftershocks to speed up response and minimize their impact," he added.

Imran said bad weather like this is expected to occur for some time in the future, therefore residents are advised to be vigilant and not to do activities that could trigger a disaster and clean waterways from various clogging garbage.

Landslides and floods are not only triggered by weather conditions, but also the behavior of residents who are accustomed to littering and even into rivers where the end of the river becomes shallow and clogged as a result, river water overflows into residential areas.
