10 Boat Passengers Lost In Raja Ampat Waters Found Safe

SORONG - An engine boat carrying 10 passengers from Sorong City, West Papua to Raja Ampat Regency which was reported missing in Raja Ampat waters was found safe and in good health.

The Sorong Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas), which received the report and conducted a search, stated that the boat had arrived at its destination safely.

Head of the Sorong Search and Rescue Office, Mochammad Arifin, said that his party had received a report from the family that the engine boat and all passengers had arrived at Urbinasopen, Raja Ampat Regency at 08.00 WIT safely.

"The Sorong Basarnas team together with the West Papua Police Water Police personnel who were conducting searches in the waters of Raja Ampat have returned to Sorong," he said, quoted by Antara, Sunday, November 7.

Previously, the Sorong Search and Rescue Office received a report in the early hours of 00.30 WIT from a family named Petrus Mirino that the engine boat had lost contact in the waters of Raja Ampat.

Initially, the engine boat was reported to have departed from Suprau beach, Sorong City with the destination of Urbinasopen, Raja Ampat Regency on November 6, 2021 at 17.00 WIT.

As estimated, the distance the engine boat with 10 people had arrived at Urbinasopen, Raja Ampat Regency on the same day at 19.00 WIT, but until Sunday morning its whereabouts were not known, so it was reported to the Basarnas.

"After receiving the report, our team immediately moved to search the engine boat since 02.30 WIT using the KN SAR Baladewa 238 ship, but in the search the ship was reported to have arrived safely at its destination," he said.
