National Police Chief Opens World Policewomen Conference In Labuan Bajo

LABUAN BAJO - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo officially opened the 58th International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Training Conference 2021 in Labuan Bajo.

"Indonesia is very proud to be the host of this prestigious event because Indonesia is the first Asian country to host this IAWP Conference," said the National Police Chief when giving a speech at the opening ceremony at the Meruorah Hotel Labuan Bajo, quoted from a written statement, Sunday, November 7.

The World Policewomen Conference held in Indonesia was the first international event during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through various efforts to control COVID-19 carried out by collaboration between the government, TNI, Polri, and the community, Indonesia can prepare itself for various other international activities in the future.

The National Police Chief explained that all the guests who attended this international conference were special Indonesian guests who had become family and friends to support each other. Cooperation is the key to the success of mutual peace and prosperity.

The National Police Chief detailed the activities attended by participants from 13 countries who attended directly in Labuan Bajo and 35 countries who attended online. The total participants were around 900 policewomen from Indonesia and other countries.

This activity will discuss how female police officers in the world fight for gender equality, as well as exchange important information and experiences that are good inputs for improving gender equality, especially in the Indonesian police.

He said that the National Police had tried to provide this space with three female generals holding important positions at the National Police Headquarters, and several positions at the high-risk operational level.

In the future, the National Police will continue to increase similar efforts so that there is gender equality for the Indonesian police.

The National Police Chief expressed his appreciation for the hard work of the Police, TNI, health services, volunteers, and various elements involved so that they can suppress the growth rate of COVID-19 so that international activities can begin to be held again.

The National Police Chief hopes that international activities that will take place until November 11, 2021 can run well so that Indonesia can show the outside world that Indonesia is ready to hold international activities in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We hope that this IAWP activity will be our moment to show the world that we are able to suppress the rate of COVID-19 and organize international activities in the midst of this situation," said the National Police Chief.
