Soil Excavation In Sukabumi Landslides, Three Miners Are Buried, One Person Dies

SUKABUMI - Heavy rain that fell almost all day is suspected to be the cause of the landslide in Pasirpacar Village, Sukabumi Regency, West Java. Three miners were buried, one of them died.

"The landslide disaster at the excavation site, precisely at RT 03/02, Kutajaya Village, Cicurug District, was due to the condition of the cliff soil as high as approximately 30 meters with a width of 10 meters which was unstable and exacerbated by high rainfall. As a result the soil could not withstand the load on the ground. over it and it finally collapsed," said Cicurug District Disaster Management Officer (P2BK) Dodi Firmansyah to reporters in Sukabumi, quoted by Antara, Sunday, November 7.

While the information gathered, the landslide disaster that buried three excavation workers occurred when the weather conditions were cloudy which previously had rained.

Prior to the landslide, the three victims identified as Darimi (55), Dedih (50) and Uci (57) were working as usual under the cliff.

But suddenly the land that was right above the residents of Cibuntu Village, RT 06/03, Pasawahan Village and Benteng Village, Kutajaya Village, Cicurug District, collapsed.

The incident was so fast that the three of them failed to save themselves and were buried alive.

Other workers and local residents who saw the incident immediately provided assistance using makeshift tools. Dedih and Uci were rescued, but Darimi died at the scene.

Although he was rescued, Uci suffered serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment, while Dedih suffered minor injuries and is undergoing treatment at his home.

Survivors are still traumatized by the incident that almost took their lives and even lost one of their colleagues.

Officers from the Sukabumi Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), TNI, Polri, volunteers and elements of the Cicurug Muspika are currently still at the scene to monitor the condition of the disaster location and victims.

The Cicurug Sector Police have installed a police line so that residents do not approach the location of the landslide cliff, it is feared that there will be another landslide that could take another victim.

"We urge residents not to approach the disaster site to anticipate things that are not desirable, especially since the rain is still pouring at the scene, which can add to the unstable condition of the cliffs and the potential for further landslides," he added.

Dodi said the landslide not only buried three excavation workers, but also buried one ankle truck unit. The vehicle used to transport the soil and rock materials has not been evacuated from the location for fear of further landslides.
