Having No Mat To Sleep, Victims Of Bajir Gresik Ask For Mattresses From Social Minister Risma
GRESIK - Social Minister Tri Rismaharini provided assistance in the form of tents, food, and personal equipment to flood victims in Cermen Village, Kedamean District, Gresik Regency, East Java Province, Sunday, November 7.
Floods due to overflowing Lamong River forced the villagers to evacuate. Some residents took refuge in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Darul Ulum Cermen, Babus Salam Mosque, and Cermen Village Hall Office.
There were also those who took refuge in makeshift tents built using tarpaulins and bamboo on the side of the village road.
Among the refugees, there were those who asked the Minister of Social Affairs for mattresses because they did not have bedding at the refugee camps.
The Minister of Social Affairs said that he would coordinate with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Gresik Regency to build refugee tents and provide velbeds for refugees.
“I help relieve according to my main task. So later we will help tents for residents to live in," Risma said as quoted by Antara. In addition to visiting refugees in Cermen Village, the Minister of Social Affairs visited a public kitchen in Gluranploso Village, Benjeng District, Gresik Regency.
The public kitchen, which is operated by the Taruna Siaga Disaster (Tagana) prepares 1,000 portions of food for the refugees.
Heavy rains caused the Lamong River to overflow and flood dozens of villages in Gresik Regency on Friday, November 5.
According to the Gresik Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency, the flooding that hit the Benjeng, Balongpanggang, Kedamean, and Cerme sub-districts caused more than 600 houses to be inundated.
