Deputy Mayor Of Makassar Fatmawati Rusdi Encourages People To Routinely Visit Posyandu To Prevent Stunting

MAKASSAR - The Makassar City Government, South Sulawesi, encourages and invites the community, especially housewives who have children under five, to routinely visit the Posyandu as an effort to prevent stunting.

"This requires parents' attention and care so that they can see their child's growth and development, whether it is in accordance with the development of age and weight as well as the fulfillment of nutrition," said Deputy Mayor of Makassar, Fatmawati Rusdi at the Kassi-Kassi Health Center, quoted by Antara, Friday, November 5.

According to him, although the government continues to try to reduce the stunting rate, on the other hand, parents do not want to check the nutritional condition of their children, thus making the situation more difficult later.

Fatmawati Rusdi asked the mothers who were present at the local health center to pay attention to the role of parents in the golden age of their children.

"Believe and believe that children often imitate their mother's habits. Therefore, the golden age of children from 0-5 years old please be given a good education and also focus on their physical development," said Fatma.

In addition, the team of health workers on duty at the Posyandu should always provide education related to health and nutrition for children to residents around the Posyandu.

"Women, Posyandu's function is to provide immunizations for children and also to look at their growth charts. If they feel inadequate or inappropriate, they will be given additional food or vitamins. So, don't delay or neglect not to visit the Posyandu," he said at the Puskesmas.

However, the definition of stunting is not due to lack of height, but malnutrition. Height is certainly influenced by one of the genetics of the parents, and not caused by stunting.

"Short doesn't mean stunting. It could be due to genetics. But it's better to find out from the experts than just guessing. Therefore, let's be diligent in going to the Posyandu," said the wife of the Indonesian House of Representatives Legislator, Rusdi Masse.

He is also optimistic that the zero stunting program in Makassar City will continue to be promoted, one of which is inviting housewives to regularly check their children at the Posyandu.

In addition to visiting the Kassi-Kassi Health Center, the Deputy Mayor also visited the Ballaparang and Mangasa Health Centers.
