The Outer Islands Of Indonesia Can Enjoy PLN Electricity

JAKARTA - PT. PLN (Persero) succeeded in providing electricity to Matutuang Island, one of the outer islands located in Marore District, Sangihe Islands Regency, North Sulawesi.

The electricity supplied to the island uses the Matutuang Diesel Power Plant (PLTD) with a capacity of 120 kilowatt (kW).

"Electricity reaches the outer islands so that electricity can be enjoyed equally by all Indonesians," said General Manager of the PLN Main Unit for North, Central Sulawesi and Gorontalo (Suluttenggo), Leo Maria Basuki Bremani, Sunday, August 2.

The construction of electricity infrastructure on Matututang Island has been built since 2018. In addition to building PLTD, PLN is also building a Medium Voltage Network (JTM) along 0.05 kilometers of circuit (kms), 2 kms of Low Voltage Network (JTR) and distribution substations with a capacity of 50 kiloVolt Ampere (kVA).

PLN will continue to expand the electricity network in line with the increasing needs of the community. Currently, the electricity system on Matutuang Island has only been operating for 6 hours, namely from 18: 00-00.00 WITA.

"Currently, PLN has made electricity connections for 59 customers and there is still the potential to add up to 100 customers. In the future, we will also increase the service time gradually, ”said Leo.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Regional Government of the Sangihe Islands Regency, especially the Marore Sub-District Head and the Matutuang Village Officials for the synergy that was built very well.

"Without this synergy, it would be difficult for PLN and the Government to complete this program," said Leo.

Before getting PLN electricity, Matutuang Island residents got electricity through PLTS, but the PLTS experienced interference. Furthermore, some residents then use generator sets, both owned by the village and personally, to generate electricity.

Matutuang Island is one of the border islands of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) in North Sulawesi, Sangihe Islands Regency and part of the Marore Islands District. This sub-district has 10 islands and is divided into four inhabited islands, including Marore, Kawio, Kemboleng, and Matutuang. Meanwhile, one other island, such as Mamanu, is seasonally inhabited and 5 other islands are uninhabited.

Until July 2020, the electrification ratio of North Sulawesi Province has reached 99.23% ”. PLN realizes that electricity is a vital need for the community, therefore PLN continues to strive to increase the electrification ratio to remote parts of the country, including the border islands of the Republic of Indonesia.
