Mahfud MD Says BLBI Debtors Often Negotiate With The Government, Claiming To Have No Debt

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD revealed that many obligors and debtors of Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) claimed to have no debt and tried to negotiate with the state.

Mahfud said this behavior had even occurred 22 years ago and hampered efforts to collect debts from debtors.

"There is a record that every official change, every ministerial change, director general change, it's always an effort from the obligor and debtor to negotiate with the government, claiming to have no debt, wanting to re-calculate, so it has been postponed until now," Mahfud said in his statement. , Friday, November 5th.

Not wanting to drag on, Mahfud then asked the debtors and obligors to immediately settle their responsibilities. He reminded all parties who owe the state to come to the BLBI Task Force office to then settle the debt.

For those who have paid off their debts, debtors and obligors can show evidence so that they are not billed again. However, Mahfud reminded not to transfer assets to other parties.

"But if we haven't and the guarantee is still with us, don't try to sell it, rent it out or transfer it to another party, that's not allowed. There are no negotiations now, the negotiation period continues for 22 years," he said.

As previously reported, the BLBI Task Force has succeeded in handing over money to the state treasury of up to Rp2.4 billion and US$7.6 million.

Not only that, this team has also succeeded in blocking 339 collateral assets and blocking the shares of 24 companies belonging to BLBI obligors and debtors.
