SAR Kupang Rescues 5 Climbers Who Lost Dozens Of Hours In Mount Timau

KUPANG - The Kupang Class A Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas) together with the local police managed to rescue five climbers of Mount Timau in Kupang Regency who had lost contact while climbing a mountain as high as 1,774 meters above sea level.

Head of the Kupang Class A Search and Rescue Office, Emi Frizer, said the five climbers were found at 08.30 WITA.

"They were found safe at coordinates 09°35' 03.17" south longitude and 123°56' 09.25" east longitude and were immediately evacuated to the South Amfoang Police Station," he said, quoted by Antara, Friday, November 5.

From the chronology of the incident, it is known that on Thursday, November 4 at 10.22 WITA, five climbers were trekking and climbing Mount Timau, Kupang Regency.

At around 12.30 WITA, based on reports, the climbers began to descend from the top of the mountain but on the way down the mountain the climbers got lost and did not know the way home.

As of 17.00 WITA, five climbers consisting of Roni Ndun, Yosep Marselino, Frangki Seran, Rhamadan Morematal and Thomi Thei have not yet arrived at the departure post.

Frizer explained that his party only received information that the climber was missing on Thursday, November 4 at 22:45 WITA through a mother named Ajeng, a relative of the missing climber.

After receiving this information, at 23.00 WITA, a rescue team from the Kupang Search and Rescue Office, totaling nine people, was dispatched using a Rescue D-Max and a personnel truck complete with ground search and rescue equipment, medical equipment, and other equipment, to carry out rescue operations.

The team after arriving at the search location immediately coordinated with various related parties to carry out SAR operations at the scene.

After coordinating with related parties, the joint team began searching at 06.00 WITA to look for climbers who got lost and were informed that they were missing.

Emi said the condition of the climbers when they were found was in good and healthy condition.
