Forward To The 2024 Presidential Election, Ridwan Kamil Still Needs Additional Capital

JAKARTA - The Mandala Research Institute's political and public policy researcher, Eko Sri Raharjo, assesses that Ridwan still needs additional capital to advance in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) contestation.

The Governor of West Java himself has stated that he is ready to run for president if there is a political party that carries him. In fact, in several survey results, Ridwan Kamil is often in the top five. Eko said, as the head of the region with the largest population, Ridwan Kamil already has large enough social and political capital to participate in the 2024 presidential election. Moreover, the man who is familiarly called Kang Emil is also identical with the only presidential candidate who represents the province of West Java. .

Emil's figure is also relatively quiet from political dynamics, even the news tends to be positive. So it has great potential to increase the level of likeability or public affection. "Because in contemporary politics, positive images tend to go hand in hand or equivalent to electability. So, there could be someone who has high popularity, but because he is not liked is a factor in his inability," said Eko, Friday, November 5th.

However, continued Eko, Emil still needed additional capital because the voters' votes in West Java did not fully belong to Ridwan Kamil. The reason is, the socio-political polarity that has occurred so far shows that the West Java public is still divided in terms of political references to different figures.

"Put Prabowo Subianto and Anies Baswedan, you could say they have a strong mass network base in West Java," said Eko.

"This means that the West Java voter list, which reached around 32.6 million people in the 2019 election, is not yet safe in Ridwan Kamil's hands. Other factors are needed to maintain and embrace the largest DPT (permanent voter list) from all provinces in Indonesia. through his position as head of the West Java region," he continued. However, there are still about three more years to realize every concept and program of development and public services that Emil has prepared in West Java. If the realization of these concepts and programs is achieved, his track record of leadership will be recorded in the minds of the wider Indonesian public. Because Eko added, it cannot be denied that the work stage and achievements as regional heads are the easiest capital to maintain in order to maintain stability in popularity, electability and acceptability.
