BANDUNG - The inactive West Bandung Regent Aa Umbara was sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of IDR 250 million. Aa Umbara was found guilty of corruption in the procurement of emergency response goods for social assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic in West Bandung Regency.
Chairman of the Panel of Judges at the Bandung District Court, West Java, Surachmat said that Aa was proven guilty according to the first and second charges, namely Article 12 letter i and Article 12 B of the Corruption Law in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.
"The defendant Aa Umbara Sutisna has been sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of Rp. 250 million, provided that if he is not paid, he will be replaced with a six-month prison term," said the judge at the Bandung District Court, Bandung City, as reported by Antara, Thursday, November 3.
The judge also sentenced Aa to pay compensation for what she received during her corruption amounting to Rp2.7 billion.
Aa was sentenced to pay compensation within one month after the verdict. If you do not pay, then Aa's assets will be confiscated to be auctioned up to the value of Rp2.7 billion.
"If you do not have sufficient assets, you will be sentenced to an additional one year imprisonment," he said.
The verdict is lighter than the demands of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutor. In the agenda of the prosecution trial, the KPK prosecutor demanded that Aa be sentenced to seven years in prison for her actions.
In his indictment, Aa is said to have arranged the procurement of emergency response items for the COVID-19 pandemic at the Bandung Regency Social Service in 2020.
In this case, Aa Umbara's son was involved who was also a defendant on behalf of Andri Gunawan and a businessman providing social assistance provision on behalf of M Totoh Gunawan.
