A Week, 20 Landslides And Floods Happened In Cianjur
CIANJUR - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cianjur, West Java, noted that over the past week, 20 landslides and floods occurred in the area, mostly in the southern region.
Head of Planning and Preparedness for Cianjur BPBD, Taufik Zuhrizal, said that most of the natural disasters hit the southern region, namely Sukanagara, Campaka, Campakamulya, Sindangbarang and Takokak sub-districts.
"Flood and landslides have dominated events over the past week, after heavy rains for more than two hours. Hundreds of houses were lightly, moderately and heavily damaged, landslides also cut off access roads connecting villages and regencies," he said.
He explained, from a number of incidents in several sub-districts, a total of more than 80 families were temporarily evacuated to safe places, in order to anticipate the occurrence of subsequent floods and landslides, in line with the high rainfall since the last two days with long intensity evenly distributed throughout the Cianjur area.
In fact, his party has alerted a thousand members of Disaster Resilient Volunteers (Retana) in all sub-districts and villages to monitor and immediately evacuate residents if they see natural signs of impending disaster and aftershocks, especially in areas where ground movement is still occurring.
"For the areas of Cibeber, Karangtengah, Cipanas and Pacet sub-districts, which are prone to landslides and tornadoes as well as ground movement, we have also prepared Retana and heavy equipment, as an effort to quickly respond to aftershocks," he said. What happened, there were no fatalities, but the exact number and material losses are still under data collection by officers, including damaged roads and rice fields that were flooded or covered by landslides.
"Natural disasters over the past week were caused by the La Nina phenomenon, where Cianjur experienced high rainfall from morning to night. Cianjur is included in the disaster risk index and ranks fourth highest in West Java, so residents in all regions are asked to be vigilant," he said. .
