Pinterest Launches Pinterest TV Feature That Allows Direct Transactions On Their Platform
JAKARTA - Pinterest steps into the live shopping space platform with the launch of 'Pinterest TV'. The platform will feature a series of live, original and 'purchasable' videos focusing on categories such as food, beauty, home, fashion, DIY and more.
The announcement comes just days after the company unveiled a slew of new features at its second annual Pinterest Creators Festival, including a monetization program for creators called 'Creator Rewards' that promises to pay them for producing inspiring content.
Pinterest also recently introduced a new 'Watch' tab to its app, which allows users to vertically scroll through videos from creators. Earlier this year, the company also announced a video feature called 'Idea Pins' that lets users record and edit short videos in the same way as TikTok.
Idea Pins has since been integrated with the augmented reality beauty trial feature, AR Try on, to allow users to virtually try lipstick and other beauty products and shop directly from the video.
The latest announcement from Pinterest is 'Pinterest TV,' which will feature videos of content creators and include a 'live chat' feature that allows viewers to ask questions about the advertised product.
Users can also view on-demand videos at any time after the first view and can also save and watch them again later. This feature is available on Android and iOS, and new episodes of Pinterest TV will air every Monday through Friday at 18:00 EDT (05:00 CEST) starting November 8. For now, this is just a US feature with no word on when (or if) it will be available elsewhere around the world.
Pinterest TV shows will include 'Christian On', a fashion and lifestyle show from fashion designer and Project Runway alum Christian Siriano, as well as 'Unfail My', a cooking-related series from director and screenwriter Monica Suriyage, and 'Tom Tries. ,' a consolation show from Olympic diving champion Tom Daley.
Other notable events will include beauty entrepreneur Manny MUA's 'Manny Does' and 'Buy This,' where comedian Robyn Schall and other Pinterest creators will showcase products from brands like Melody Ehsani, Crown Affair and more.
Along with Pinterest TV, the company also announced a new initiative in which Pinterest producers will work with content creators to "develop unique content." According to Pinterest, the new virtual studio will allow creators to get help with backstage A/V support, allowing them to go live without having the technical know-how necessary to produce a high-quality show.
It remains to be seen if the new initiative will help Pinterest gain a more engaged user base in their content. But the company claims that creators who have hosted Pinterest TV episodes during the pilot phase have "substantially increased their following on the platform," while some creators have reportedly even doubled their followers in the process.
