Appointed As Candidate For Commander In Chief, DPD RI Invites General Andika To Collaborate To Discuss The Archipelago Bill
JAKARTA - The President's letter (Surpres) regarding the nomination of Army Chief of Staff General Andika Perkasa as the sole candidate for the TNI Commander has been received by the Indonesian House of Representatives. DPD RI also welcomes President Jokowi's decision to appoint General Andika as a candidate for commander in chief.
The decision was deemed appropriate, especially for the DPD committee I in charge of politics, law, human rights and public order, as well as regional issues in the border areas.
"KSAD General Andika Perkasa's expertise in territorial operations is considered capable of making him the leader of the TNI. A figure like this is also able to collaborate with the DPD RI, especially regarding the discussion of the Archipelago Bill," said Chairman of Committee I DPD RI Fachrul Razi, Thursday, November 4.
According to the Senator from Aceh, in addition to having academic achievements, General Andika Perkasa also has a background in territorial operations needed by the TNI in facing the challenges ahead. Especially, related to the threat of conflict in the North Natuna Sea which is currently claimed by China as the South China Sea. "DPD hopes that the election of General TNI Andika Perkasa will be able to view the Archipelago Regional Bill in line with the President's vision and mission and as a form of state presence in the archipelago," said Fachrul.
Especially the Natuna Islands which are the gateway to the Republic of Indonesia. According to him, the island is very vulnerable to foreign control, so Indonesia needs a general who understands the problem, especially in the archipelago and exclusive economic areas. Fachrul added that the problem in Natuna is not only about theft of fish. But various countries are trying to claim the South China Sea area which is rich in potential and eventually spread to the EEZ area of Indonesia.
"This is what makes the situation heat up. Therefore, we hope that the government will implement a system for handling law enforcement because of the high level of vulnerability. So once again we need someone like General Andika Perkasa," he concluded.
