Driver's Epilepsy Relapses Caused Deadly Transjakarta Accident, Deputy Governor: This Is A Lesson

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria promised PT Transjakarta to be more stringent in recruiting bus drivers.

This is in response to the Transjakarta accident some time ago caused by the driver's epilepsy that recurred while driving.

"This is a lesson for us for future selection or recruitment so that busway drivers must be considered. Moreover, it was discovered that the Transjakarta driver had epilepsy in the driver," said Riza at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, November 3.

Riza ensured that the DKI Provincial Government would evaluate the operational safety of Transjakarta after the accident that resulted in the death of two people.

He views that the workload as a Transjakarta driver is heavier than other vehicle drivers. This is because the Transjakarta route (busway) has limited space for movement.

"Indeed, being a TransJakarta bus driver is different from other vehicles. Because the path is straight, then there is limited space for movement, and there are left and right barriers. Some even started working at 3 am already out," said Riza.

"So, there needs to be a regulation that ensures the health and safety of drivers and passengers," he added. Previously, the Traffic Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police named a driver with the initials J as a suspect in the case of the accident of two TransJakarta buses. Determination based on the results of the case title.

"The driver who died is the suspect," said the Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters.

From the title of the case, the cause of the accident was due to human error. Because, the results of the investigation and investigation of the driver's epilepsy suffered a relapse.

"It is suspected that up to now, the results of the examination by the police medical team and the police laboratory are indeed that the driver of B 7477 TK has congenital epilepsy," said Yusri.

In addition, the Director of Traffic of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said that although the TransJakarta driver had been named a suspect, the case would be closed.

Because the suspect is dead. The closure of this case was based on Article 310 paragraph 4 of Law No. 22 of 2009.
