COVID-19, Jakarta No Sacrifice Kitchen

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has canceled the qurbani kitchen activities on Eid al-Adha 1441 Hijriah. This is because the holding of Eid al-Adha this year is in an atmosphere of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Head of DKI Mental and Spiritual Education Bureau Hendra Hidayat said it was feared that the activity of cooking meat together in large quantities would become the location of the spread of the corona virus.

"This year there is no qurbani kitchen. If the conditions are normal, mah, we will do it. But, the conditions are like this. So, they do not exist," Hendra said when contacted, Thursday, July 30.

Hendra said, currently the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is still focusing on dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak and overcoming economic conditions. Moreover, DKI Pemprov is still preoccupied with the study of determining the transition period for PSBB.

"Because of conditions like this, we are avoiding all forms of spreading the virus," he said.

This year, the DKI Provincial Government handed over sacrificial animals to a number of institutions, such as Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT), Rumah Zakat, Baznas, and the Human Initiative.

Later, the agency will slaughter sacrificial animals. The meat will be distributed raw to the public. "Later, the raw meat will be distributed using bongsang, not using plastic anymore," he said.

Last year, the DKI Provincial Government held an open sacrifice at the National Monument. Ready-to-eat qurbani meat is given to the public, which has been processed by a number of chefs, aka chefs from star hotels in the capital.

From the qurbani kitchen event in 2019, the DKI Provincial Government distributed around 5000 boxes of ready-to-eat meat. The results of the sacrifice, besides the form of rice boxes, are also in the form of corned beef and canned rendang.

This process is distributed to a number of sub-districts that have heavy slum areas in Jakarta, then foundations, mosques, orphanages are also processed in the form of qurban and canned corned beef / rendang.
