PDIP Values Minister Of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian Slow To Decide Election Schedule For 2024

JAKARTA - Member of Commission II of the DPR RI from the PDIP faction, Rifqizamy Karsayuda, regretted the steps taken by the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian, who seemed slow in determining the schedule for the 2024 Simultaneous Election.

In fact, he said, the Minister of Home Affairs is a representative of the government who is tasked with building coordination with election organizers.

Rifqi assessed that the Minister of Home Affairs and his apparatus had not been able to optimally coordinate with election organizers, including with political parties in the DPR RI. He also suggested that the Minister of Home Affairs hold a meeting with various parties so that all would immediately reach a common ground. On the other hand, the government has never spoken to the KPU and other election organizers regarding this issue," Rifqi said, Wednesday, November 3.

Based on information obtained from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Rifqi continued, the government and organizers still need time to consolidate and equalize perceptions regarding the schedule agreement.

As is well known, the government proposes a voting day for the 2024 general election on 15 May 2024 while the KPU will be on 21 February 2024.

Therefore, the PDIP politician emphasized the importance of ensuring that the 2024 election schedule is decided immediately.

"The voting day for the 2024 General Election must be decided immediately, because various other stages refer to it. For example, the verification stage for political parties, including other stages," he stressed.

This South Kalimantan I electoral district legislator also revealed that the attitude of the PDIP faction of the DPR RI who wanted a schedule for the 2024 General Election should have sufficient time lag before the Pilkada in the same year. One reason is that all disputes between the legislative and presidential elections will be completed before the 2024 Pilkada stage begins," he said.

"The results of the 2024 Pileg are the basis for submitting candidates in the 2024 Pilkada. Therefore, the results of the Pilleg must be legally binding before the registration of the Pilkada is held," concluded Rifqi.
