DKI Pemprov Holds Another Mass Marriage Towards The New Year

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Provincial Government will again hold a mass wedding ceremony, to be precise at the end of 2019. The mass marriage program is carried out to help Jakarta residents who are unable to hold private marriages. This is because the cost of weddings in the capital city is quite expensive.

Head of the DKI Dikmental Bureau Hendra Hidayat said the number of married couples was 631 couples.

"Last year's 500s, now there are more than 631 couples," said Hendra when met at City Hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, Friday, December 20.

In fact, said Hendra, the number of participants who are interested in participating in the mass marriage is more than what has been determined by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

"However, there are those who live in Jakarta but there is no Jakarta ID card, or from outside Jakarta. Now that's a bit difficult," he said.

The location of the mass wedding ceremony held on New Year's Eve is different from last year. If previously it was held at the former Thamrin 10 Parking Lot, Jalan MH Thamrin, this year's mass wedding was held in the courtyard of the DKI City Hall Building.

"We are more comfortable playing here (City Hall yard), more comfortable place. If there (Thamrin 10), how about it," he said.

Hendra said, broadly speaking, the concept of mass marriage was the same as last year. This sacred activity will present a religious figure who will provide marriage advice.

Each pair will be given a gift and a dowry of Rp1 million. The budget comes from the DKI Jakarta Amil Zakat, Infaq, and Shadaqah (Bazis) Agency.

Like last year, this year's mass wedding ceremony was also accompanied by a bazaar that lined up in front of the DKI City Hall Building.

"There is a possibility, the initial plan (Road) in front of City Hall will be closed, while the Monas section is opened," he concluded.
