Inspired By The Viral Video 'Greetings From Binjai,' 9 Junior High School Students In Lamongan Uproot 50 Banana Trees Ready To Harvest
LAMONGAN - Dozens of banana trees in the land of Surabayan Village, Sukodadi District, Lamongan Regency, East Java were damaged by nine junior high school students. This cowboy student action was triggered by the video 'Greetings from Binjai' which is currently viral on social media.
"This destruction was carried out by around 9 children, on average still in grades 1 to 2 of junior high school," said Secretary of the Surabayan Village, Rendi Hardianto to reporters in Lamongan as reported by Antara, Tuesday, November 2.
Viral 'Greetings from Binjai,' was first performed by a man named Paris Pernandes. The man who is a former boxing athlete 'beat' a banana tree until it fell. Before taking action, Paris first said 'Greetings from Binjai.'
Rendi said the 50 banana trees were just waiting to be ripe and ready to be harvested. The banana tree destruction was discovered after receiving a report from the tree owner, and was carried out for several days in a row at night.
"At its peak, the actions of the children were caught on Sunday, October 31 last night, and we called the children to the village hall accompanied by their respective parents, because they were involved in the vandalism incident," he said.
During the meeting, the nine children admitted that they had damaged with the aim of imitating and being inspired by the viral 'Salam from Binjai' video, then destroying banana trees.
"The owner yesterday met with the perpetrators, and Alhamdulillah made peace, it was resolved amicably," he said.
Meanwhile, the acts of destruction were carried out in various ways, and made banana trees the target of hitting objects, but some were by climbing banana tree trunks and then swinging them until they fell.
"When they managed to knock down the banana tree, they were so happy," said the Head of Surabayan Village, Sunarto, when confirmed.
Sunarto has carried out a mediation process by calling parents and school teachers to be given guidance to the children.
"Parents have also apologized for their children's behavior and will increase supervision over the behavior of their respective children. Because they are still children, the owner of the banana tree that was damaged also understands that they should not take legal action," he said.
He hopes that parents will take care and monitor their children's behavior, so that similar incidents do not happen in the future and in other places.
