Robbery Perpetrators In Cakung Sell Looted Cellphones On Facebook, Victim's Parents See Report Directly To Police
JAKARTA - Two perpetrators of a motorized robbery were caught on CCTV cameras, snatching cellphones belonging to two girls who were busy walking. It is known that the robbery took place at the Aneka Elok Milling Housing Estate, RT 12/RW 09, Grinding Village, Cakung District, East Jakarta.
In the CCTV footage that highlighted the incident, the victim was walking with his friend while holding a cellphone in his left hand. Suddenly, two young men riding a red automatic motorcycle grabbed the victim. One of the perpetrators got off the motorbike and took the victim's cellphone.
The victim had tried to defend the cellphone when it was confiscated, until there was a mutual tug-of-war with the perpetrator. Unfortunately, the attempt failed because it lost power.
After taking the victim's cellphone, the perpetrator drove his motorcycle to flee from the residential area. While the girl seemed to be trying to ask for help.
Cakung Police Chief Kompol Satria Darma said the victim's parents had reported the mugging case to his side and had followed up.
"We have arrested one perpetrator with the initials PA (23), today he has been arrested. PA is the perpetrator who was ridden, who took the victim's cellphone," Satria told reporters, Tuesday, November 2.
The arrests began when the victim's parents found their daughter's cellphone being sold by the perpetrator via Facebook. Then the victim's parents reported it to the Cakung Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
By pretending to be the buyer, the victim's parents together with the Cakung Police Criminal Investigation Unit lined up the perpetrator and asked the perpetrator to meet to make payment.
"After that, we immediately secured and detained him at the Cakung Police. For the other perpetrator, who was in charge of driving the motorbike at the time of the incident, members were still pursuing them," he said.
Satria said, PA has now been named a suspect, he is suspected of Article 363 of the Criminal Code regarding theft accompanied by weighting with a threat of seven years in prison.
The evidence that was secured by the Cakung Police Criminal Investigation Unit investigator included CCTV footage that highlighted the incident, and the victim's cellphone that the perpetrator wanted to sell via Facebook.
"We have obtained the identity of the other perpetrator from the PA statement. We are currently in pursuit," he said.
