JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto said he would strengthen telecommunications networks in Indonesia's outermost regions, during a visit to Miangas Island, Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi on Saturday.

"We will also buy school supplies for children. Then there is strengthening the network so that mobile phones can operate here," said President Prabowo Subianto when holding a dialogue with the community at SMK Negeri 2 Talaud in Miangas.

The President then called the Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid who accompanied him in reviewing the northernmost island in Indonesia.

Not only that, the President also alluded to the Ministry of Communication and Digital will provide mobile phone and Starlink assistance to facilitate communication and the internet in the outermost regions of Indonesia.

"He will give handphones and Starlink to all KK," said the President.

The plan is for as many as 203 families on Miangas Island to receive this digital connectivity assistance. The government has prepared 180 Starlink modem units and 210 mobile phone units to ensure that communication and internet services can be enjoyed smoothly by the people in Miangas.

Not only communication tools, the President also handed over assistance in the form of a fishing boat with a size of 15 gross tonnage (GT) so that it can be used to support the local community's economy accompanied by the development of the Fishing Village.

"Next month, the construction will start, be careful, I will check it again later," said the President.

The establishment of the fishing village will be equipped with ice makers and cold storage facilities, accompanied by a special fuel filling location for fishermen.

President Prabowo arrived in Miangas on Saturday (9/5) after previously attending the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines on May 7-8, 2026.
