Halau Flood, South Jakarta City Government Dredges Mud And Garbage Sediment In 15 Reservoirs

JAKARTA - The South Jakarta City Government is targeting 15 reservoirs to be dredged from silt and garbage during 2021 as an effort to anticipate flooding.

"This has been inventoried and this (dredging) will be carried out at all points of the river, also in the reservoir and setu," said South Jakarta Economic and Development Assistant Mukhlisin in an interactive dialogue on disaster response at the South Jakarta Mayor's Office as reported by Antara, Tuesday, March 9.

He added that the target coverage for the dredging of 15 reservoirs is estimated at 220 thousand cubic meters. Regarding flooding, he hopes for community participation, among others, by not littering the river.

"We also hope that the community will play an active role in making infiltration wells and also do not take waterways (rivers)," he said.

The City Government of South Jakarta is intensifying the dredging and cleaning up rivers or waterways from mud and garbage in residents' settlements.

These efforts were made to ensure that the waterways run smoothly and avoid stagnant water or river overflows when it rains heavily.

The DKI Jakarta Water Resources Agency also continues to strive to carry out activities of dredging rivers or reservoirs through the "Mud Duck" activities throughout the DKI Jakarta area.
