KPK Confiscates Assets Belonging To North Hulu Sungai Regent Abdul Wahid, The Total Reaches Rp. 14.2 Billion

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confiscated assets belonging to the Regent of North Hulu Sungai (HSU), South Kalimantan, inactive Abdul Wahid, who is a suspect in bribery, gratuities and money laundering cases. The total value of the confiscated assets is said to have reached Rp. 14.2 billion.

"KPK has confiscated various assets from suspect AW related to the alleged receipt of bribes, gratifications and money laundering offences," said Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, to reporters, Tuesday, January 18.

Ali said the asset confiscation was carried out because Abdul Wahid was suspected of making purchases using the money he received.

"The investigative team strongly suspects that the suspect AW had intentional in carrying out financial transactions not through legal financial transaction services and hiding to disguise the origin of his assets on behalf of other parties," he said.

Meanwhile, the assets of Rp. 14.2 billion that were confiscated by the KPK from Abdul Wahid consisted of land and buildings in the Hulu Sungai Utara Regency and surrounding areas with a value of Rp. 10 billion.

Then, cash in the form of rupiah and foreign currencies which amounted to around Rp. 4.2 billion and motorized vehicles. "All this evidence will be confirmed to the witnesses, both during the investigation process to the process of proving in court," said Ali.

Furthermore, this asset will be confiscated after it has permanent legal force or inkracht. The booty is expected to be one of the achievements and additional income for the state from asset recovery for corruption and money laundering offenses to be used for development.

"These assets in court decisions that have legal force can be confiscated for the state so that they become one of the achievements and additional income for the state from assets recovering from corruption and money laundering offenses to be used for development," he concluded.
