X Change Policies On Community Records, Fact Check Features That Give Users Valid Information

JAKARTA - Twitter's rebranding platform, X decided to change the crowdsourced fact checking feature called Community Notes or Community Records.

The feature serves to provide users with information about a Tweet or post added fact-checking.

However, after three years of development, the microblogging site finally deleted an explanation regarding the Community Records feature, when many users had relied on this feature for valid information.

In an X employee's latest Tweet, Lucas Neumann explains the Community Records feature is a very foreign concept for most users at first.

"Maklum, people are basically skeptical and have a lot of questions when finding notes. Our research has consistently found that versions with more text, not less, help people consider notes friendly, helpful, fair and trustworthy," Neumann said.

"It also helps them understand that this comes from the community, not from company employees. My minimalist designer spirit rejected these findings initially, but our research is solid, so we rely on the abundance side of the text," he continued.

Now, Neumann insists the feature will change along with how people use it.

So, when users get used to the feature, X will delete detailed explanations of how Community Records work, but that feature will continue to emerge for those who just know it.

"Now, after 3 years of mature @CommunityNotes as a first-class feature and gaining more trust in people, we're finally starting to streamline and perfect it," Neumann said.

"We use a progressive onboarding approach, where detailed explanations will continue to appear for audiences who are new to Community Records, while simplified versions will begin to be displayed to more experienced ones," he added.

It is known, the feature, which was originally named Birdwatch, was launched in December 2022 after previous testing and was refined over the years.

Not everyone can immediately become a contributor to Community Records. They must prove they are able to write notes and judge correctly whether they are useful or not.

They must also continue to add quality contributions or their contributor status to be removed. Community records cannot be edited or modified by members of the X team and do not represent the company's point of view. This was quoted from TechCrunch, Thursday, August 3.
