JAKARTA - Google has just launched a beta version of Nearby Share for Windows, which was previously only available for mobile. This app will make it easier for users to share files.
"Today, we are expanding Nearby Share to Windows as a beta version in certain areas, so that more and more of your devices can work better together," said Android Senior Product Manager Priya Samnerkar in the company's official blog post, quoted Monday, April 3.
Windows users can download and install Nearby Share Beta on their PC from the Android site. Then, they can send files to a nearest Android device, or share files with PC based on device visibility preferences.
Previously, users had to activate Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on PC for the application to work. Then, select a photo, video, or document from a Windows PC, then select Send with Nearby Share in the right-click menu.
Next, simply select Android devices from the list that appears. When sending files, users will be asked to agree to the request. All files are encrypted when shared.
Nearby Share Beta can open on desktop or run in the background. To try it out, it is confirmed to have a 64-bit version of Windows 10 and a newer version of the computer, or Android with a newer version of Android 6.0, and is not powered by ARM processors.
If the user has both devices and both log into the same Google account, the transfer will be received automatically even if the recipient screen is turned off. However, both devices must be within 5 meters of each other.
"As a beta version, Nearby Share for Windows PCs supports sharing content with smartphones and Android tablets. As we continue to improve our experience and receive your feedback, we will expand official support for sharing content with other Google ecosystem devices," said Samnerkar.
However, as this app is still in beta, it is only available in the United States (US) and most countries globally.
Currently, Nearby Share Beta for Windows is not available in countries, such as Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech, Denmark, Donbass, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
