JAKARTA - The rules for blocking the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) on Black Market (BM) cell phones have finally been officially established. If there are no more obstacles, the regulation will be implemented on 15 September.

This was disclosed by the Director General of Resources and Equipment of Post and Information Technology (Dirjen SDPPI) of the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo), Ismail. According to him, the information on the determination of the improvement of the IMEI regulatory system came from the Association of Indonesian Telecommunications Operators (ATSI).

"The rules are already in effect, just waiting for the system to be completed. I got a report from my ATSI friends that on September 15 the system is ready," said Ismail to VOI, Thursday, September 10.

Later, according to Ismail, the implementation of the regulation itself will have to wait for how the system is prepared to inject BM cellphones.

"We are not a problem waiting for ATSI, but waiting for the readiness of the system in the field. All (Ministry of Industry, Customs, Ministry of Trade and Operators) each have a role here," said Ismail.

Contacted separately, regarding the system of lethal injection of BM's cell phones through the IMEI which will be established on September 15, Secretary General of ATSI Marwan O Baasir also explained that this regulation was in the finishing line.

"Now we are in the finishing phase. If the Product Registration Data (TPP) of the Ministry of Industry has finished entering, then now we are entering the preparation phase for migration from cloud to hardware. Yes, hopefully on September 15 everything will be finished," explained Marwan to VOI.

According to Marwan, on 15 September is the time that has been determined by ATSI. Therefore, he hopes that the system on this rule will be resolved soon by the parties concerned.

"If September 15 is in accordance with our timeline in the project. Hopefully it will be finished, because right now we are just waiting for migration," said Marwan.

Marwan also explained that the migration was carried out by ATSI, "All of the projects are still at ATSI. We are the ones doing it, after that we will hand it over."

Later, all decisions that will take effect on September 15 will be from the government itself, "So we only prepare the hardware, the system, so after that we submit it to the government. The government will determine when it will take effect. Only the system is ready, he hopes. "If you look at the project, it is still on track on September 15," said Marwan.

Previously it was known, cellphones whose IMEI numbers were not registered in the Ministry of Industry database would not be able to connect to the cellular network so they could not be used. The IMEI regulation was actually effective last April, but the implementation of when this rule will take place has not been carried out until now.
