Japan Masters 2023: Gregoria Qualifies For Semifinals

Women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung qualified for the semifinals of the Japan Masters 2023 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA Gregoria Mariska Tunjung managed to continue her steps to the semifinals of the Japan Masters 2023 after defeating the Singapore women's singles, Yeo Jia Min.

The Indonesian women's singles beat the opponent with a final score of 22-20 and 21-19 at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium, Japan, on Friday, November 17, 2023.

Gregoria said that she was very satisfied to be able to beat the opponent who played really well and could exploit his weaknesses.

"Earlier in the game, I was finally able to win because I played more calmly, especially in critical points. On the other hand, the opponent played in a hurry and made his own mistakes," said Gregoria.

"I am happy with today's results and performances because I have been left behind several times and rarely have I been able to play that calm. So, I am grateful for this victory," he said.

Gregoria was far behind seven points before the interval of the first game. Left behind by the difference in the same points also happened in the second game.

"When I fell behind in the first and second games, I didn't think I wanted to catch up. I just thought I took points one by one and didn't make mistakes myself. Earlier the opponent also got a lot of points from my own mistakes," he said.

In the semifinal match, Gregoria will meet Beiwen Zhang, the singles daughter of the United States with the seventh seed.

Beiwen Zhang qualified for the semifinals after China's single opponent Taipei, Tai Tzu Ying, withdrew due to injury in the third game.

"Tomorrow (18 November 2023) against Beiwen Zhang in the semifinals. I have to be excited. Especially now that the opponent is in the best performance. I will also try to do my best. I have a target to be able to play better and win can be achieved," said Gregoria.
