Alex Marquez Wins MotoGP Malaysia Sprint, Outperforms Martin And Pecco

JAKARTA - Alex Marquez of the Gresini Racing team won the Malaysian MotoGP Sprint which took place at the Sepang Malaysia circuit, Saturday, ahead of two strong candidates for world champion Francesco "Pecco" Bagnaia and Jorge Martin.

Alex, who started the race from fourth to winner in the MotoGP Malaysia Sprint session with a record time of almost 1.6 seconds ahead of compatriot Jorge Martin in second place.

Martin put pressure on defending champion Bagnaia by shifting it to third place in the race which was in consequence on the difference in points.

Before the race started, Martin was only 13 points adrift of Bagnaia and with the results on the Malaysian MotoGP Sprint, Martin also cut two points or only 11 points short of Pecco in first place in the 2023 MotoGP standings.

Bagnaia, who started the race from pole position and managed to maintain his position at 10 laps, had to accept himself to be ranked third on the finish line.

Rival for the 2023 MotoGP title Jorge Martin, who started from second, actually slumped to fourth. But Martin corrected it again and fought for second place with Marquez when Bagnaia was comfortable in first place.

However, Alex, Marc Marquez's younger brother, raced Bagnaia in the remaining five laps. More than that, Martin, who was in third place, also managed to win second place from Bagnaia.

Marquez from Gresini Racing continued to advance in the remaining round with a time of more than 1 second on the remaining sprint in front of Martin.

Bagnaia's teammate from Ducati Lenovo Enea Bastianini was fourth on the Malaysian MotoGP Sprint this time.
