Joe Cordina Rides The Ring This Weekend Against Edward Vazquez

JAKARTA - Wales boxer Joe Cardina will be in the ring this weekend against Edward Vazquez after approximately six months of maintaining an unbeaten record.

The duel of the two boxers will take place at Casino de Monte Carlo, Monaco, Sunday, November 5 nearest. Their fight will be for the IBF title.

Cordina, the super-IBF featherweight champion (16-0, 9 KOs), just won a separate 12-round decision victory that was highly controversial over Shafkat Rakhimov last April.

The result made him reclaim his belt. Before that, Joe Cordina's title was revoked due to repeated injuries when asked to fight.

Cordina herself is a bronze medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He later became a professional boxer in 2017 when he played his first match against Jose Aguilar.

In addition, Cordina also won Commonwealth lightweight titles in 2018 and the English belt the following year.

Meanwhile, Edward Vazquez became professional in 2016. He has won four consecutive wins since losing controversially against Raymond Ford in 2022.

Edward's last fight, which has a record (15-1, 3 KOs), was an absolute victory over Brayan De Gracia in July.

However, Matchroom Boxing's decision to choose Vazquez, who is 27 years old from the featherweight division to face Cordina, left a question mark. Both are considered not commensurate.

Boxing News 24 wrote that the promoter should choose a challenger from the 130-pound division. The reason is, Edward, who is from the United States, is currently not in the top 15 in the division.

Edward Vazquez, with a knockout level of 20 percent, is considered not to be a strong enough bat to compete in the super feeweight division. He is considered better off fighting in the 126 poundd class.
